It took the Federation almost 10 years to restore South River’s most polluted stream segment. It is nicknamed the “Impossible Stream” because so many thought it couldn’t be restored. The Federation transformed this gully dotted with outfall pipes into a set of cascading step pools planted with wetlands that slow, cool, and filter the water before reaching Church Creek. In its first two years after restoration, the fish population (eastern mosquito fish and eels) went from a total of 14 to 284 fish! See more photos.
